In the heat of summer, the only thing that is supposed to be melting is your ice cream (and maybe some men’s hearts when they see you in your new Bardot dress). But more often than not, it’s your makeup that’s slipping and sliding all over the place. And because panda eyes and smudged lipstick are not going to help your flirting prospects at this year’s biggest parties, we’ve put together a foolproof guide to keeping your makeup from melting into your mojito.
Always use a primer
Yes, they may look like fairly innocuous face creams, but primers are what stand between you and a puddle of foundation on the floor. All you need is a pea-sized amount of shine-busting, oil-free formula to change your sweaty complexion to a glowing one instead. Apply to moisturised skin before your concealer and foundation to keep things from going south during the day.
Lighten up
Think of it this way: the less foundation you put on, the less there is to slide off. There are other ways to get full coverage: use primer for an even tone, concealer for blemishes and undereye bags, and bronzer for colour. If you still need foundation, apply it with a damp sponge, so it goes on light and sheer.
Waterproof everything
Sadly, in July and August, the most common (and unintentional) eye makeup trend is raccoon. So stand out from the crowd by escaping this mishap with waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Or, if you’re in a long-term relationship with your usual mascara, apply a waterproof topcoat to ensure it stays in place.
Bin the powders
How can we describe the look when sweat and powder mix? Let’s just say it isn’t pretty. So swap your powders for a cream version for a healthy glistening sheen that can withstand the ill effects of moisture.
