To The Max
Maximalism is about expressing oneself. And what are you waiting for? Individuality is king (or queen!). Just take a look at the runways: Alessandro Michele at Gucci, Miuccia Prada at Prada, and Jeremy Scott at Moschino all ramped up the mad-o-meter with eccentric ensembles and novel accents that inject fun into SS style.
To begin establishing your own attention-grabbing look, embrace mesmerising patterns and print combinations, and don’t be afraid to make bold colour choices. Focus on the details, and zero in on over-the-top embellishments and loud logos. Just run with it!
Accessories are key, of course. Add bows (everywhere!), eccentric sunglasses, gigantic earrings/rings/necklaces/brooches, bold bags and extreme shoes. Wear them at the same time, and be sure to layer it on thick. Add perhaps the most important detail of a devil-may-care-attitude, and you’re good to go.
So, go on. Throw your classic ideals to the wind. Grab fashion by the gilded pompoms. And strut into the new season, smiling because – oh, what fun it is to wear your heart on your sleeves and dizzying combinations of vibrant colours and patterns everywhere else.
It’s bold, but not OTT

Less is More
Sometimes we need a breath of fresh air. A reprieve. Meet minimalism. When you’re all ruffled-out and pattern-drunk, turn to the label that has this look down to a T (or, tee?), Calvin Klein. It offers clean lines, a neutral palette and the season’s hottest dress shape, the no-fuss, excellent Shift. Not to mention loose-fitting, easy-to-wear wide-leg trousers and statement drape coats, belted softly. Add a few subtle sheer panels for the evening and a hint of sport by wearing every-thing with pristine white, unbranded trainers.
For minimal dressing, the clue is in the name. Barely any jewellery is required. Try adding slender, delicate body chains to give an air of summer time fun. Perfection!
There is an art to appropriate minimal dressing, however. Choose more structured pieces for work, like coats and trousers, and keep billowing styles for long summer days, for which you should also check out the offering at Givenchy – romantic, delicate lace separates, hints of lingerie and striking monochrome combinations.
Minimal style is chic and timeless. It’s bold, but not OTT, and keeps things classy. What’s not to love?
